Erika's Rally Blog

I am the 2wd United States Rally Champion. The first woman to win such a title in US history.
This blog began as my space to document my car build and has since evolved into a place to discuss the demands and challenges a woman faces in such a demanding sport.

Preppy Swiss Cheese

So prepping the interior and cage for paint is SO much more than one little step as it sounds. Started by sanding everything with rough grit sand paper. Then went over with steel wool and wiped all surfaces with acetone.

Onto the Swiss Cheese issue… 5,000 holes in the chassis can’t be good. Fill or cover all the holes in the shell, yes even the small ones that go into the rockers. Travis Hansen explained to me that this helps keep dust out of the cabin of the car. The large holes were welded with a patch thanks to help of Sean Dillon who teaches me how to weld. We cut squares of steel and used “Ribbon Sealer” under tack welds then seam sealer around the edges. Clean under the hood but I decided to skip painting it.
