Erika's Rally Blog

I am the 2wd United States Rally Champion. The first woman to win such a title in US history.
This blog began as my space to document my car build and has since evolved into a place to discuss the demands and challenges a woman faces in such a demanding sport.

Prescott Rally, Championship Event

United States Rally Championship is an amazing series which races Eastern events and Western at the end of the season the teams in contention for the championship title are awarded a travel grant to go the final round.

After some debating we decided to go to Arizona and try for the win.

I borrowed a trailer and a crew of my friends stepped up and took the car out. I really felt like I hit the big time to be able to arrive and drive an event!!!

Prescott first off is beautiful! High desert, many surfaces in the same stage ranging from red clay to grey gravel.

The event started in the evening. Racing at night with the vast exposures and my light pods not adjusted for the dust I felt pretty darn slow but recovered nicely on Day 2 to have a good lead on the teams I needed to beat in order to win.

Jason and I had such a great time meeting all the western teams. The conditions were amazing and we feel so lucky to have the opportunity to go west, compete and win the 2wd National Title.

International Rally New York 2010

Results: 1st 2wd 6th Overall

Comments: Wow was that fast. The experience I got from NEFR really set me up to fight for my win in the gravel. I was lucky enough to have a great crew to keep me out there after breaking an axle early on and having a mystery fuse blow I feel lucky to have made it to the end.

At IRNY we scored the points to secure our lead in the United States Rally Championship. After the win is when I knew I would qualify to compete at the final round of the championship at Prescott Forest Rally in Arizona.
